“Mounteney is one of those rare few who was born to sing the blues.”
-Barbara Sims, Author of ‘The Next Elvis - Searching for Stardom at Sun Records’
LJ is a singer-songwriter and performer residing in Vancouver BC. Known for putting soulful twists on inspired classics, intriguing song choices and high-energy shows, Mounteney possesses a magnetic stage presence. Her singing has been compared to Norah Jones, Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt. The LJ Mounteney Blues Group played a wide variety of shows since the release of Mama Danced including the Harmony Arts Festival, The Fraser Valley Blues Society and the album release was presented by The Rogue Folk Club. Mounteney’s trio was presented by the Haida Gwaii Arts Council for two shows in November of 2024. Most recently, LJ Mounteney was a featured artist at Vancouver International Film Festival’s premiere showing of I Can’t Be Anyone But Me, an award winning documentary about Big Mama Thornton. 2025 also saw her receive her first grant from Creative BC in the demo recording category. That song, Leavin’ Today, is set for release in late Spring.
Mounteney's 2022 13 song, blues and roots sophomore album Mama Danced, was produced by veteran musician and blues legend Jack Lavin (founder of Powder Blues Band). Mama Danced features an all-star cast of BC and Alberta blues musicians and singers, including recent Juno nominee Brandon Isaak. Mama Danced received rave reviews and radio/internet play worldwide.
